Eyebrow Tattoo and Permanent Makeup Artistry by Michele Curran
Eyebrow Tattoo has grown in popularity and is now the most popular form of cosmetic tattoo. No one can deny that we are greatly influenced by the beautiful world of Hollywood, past and present. Everybody loves Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn and nowadays Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian. Megan Gale, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Anniston, just to name a few….
At Cosmetic Creations , in Bondi Junction, Sydney ( 26-30 Spring street, level 6, room 603 ) I use the latest machines available. (I was one of the first users of the latest digital Nouveau Contour machine from germany , called “the intelligent” the Rolls Royce of machines, which is silent, slow vibrating, very accurate, less invasive, resulting in quicker healing times). I now use the latest machine, The Oron 60 by NPM, the strongest anaesthetics and the best colours to recreate all those looks. Whether it is a sophisticated brow, a natural look with eyebrow feathering, a hint of shadowing, a mysterious looking eye, a lash enhancement , a sophisticated eyeliner, a hint of eye shadow, baby lips, a newly defined lip line or sexy luscious lips.
3 Main Styles of Eyebrow Tattoo… Which Style is Best for You?
I have been a permanent make up artist since 1990. Over the years eyebrow tattoo has evolved from the original tattoo pointillism method, where we used a single needle attached to a bamboo stick, to the increasingly popular eyebrow feathering.
However , the style you choose is as much about skin type as it is your personal preference. Some people are not a good candidate for the finer eyebrow feathering techniques.
Listed below is my guide and recommendations to help you choose the best tattoo eyebrow style for you.
- Feather Eyebrow Tattoo
Feathered eyebrows is the most popular form of eyebrow tattooing. It creates a very natural looking hair stroke eyebrow finish (hence the nickmane “hair strokes”).
Eyebrow feathering is most commonly performed using a hand tool called a micro blade, or using a single needle using an electric Rotary tattooing pen. Best results require two sessions.
Due to the fine nature of eyebrow feathering, it does not last as long as some of the more prominent eyebrows tattoo techniques. Also, it is best suited for people with normal to dry skin types. Oily skin can lead to inconsistent results, causing the ink to leach and spoiling the hair stroke effect.
Skin that has been lasered around the brows, has to recover for 2 to 3 months, as well as the skin where skin products containing vitamin C or Retain A have been used.
- Ombre Eyebrow Tattoo
Ombre eyebrow tatoo has been known for years as shadowing eyebrow tattoo, or the powdery technique. It gives a similar effect to thickening the brow using powder or a soft crayon.
While similar in shape to the original block method, the ombre method uses a colour diluted for a much lighter and softer finish, it can be achieved with a hand tool using a large group of needles or the electric rotary machine using a variety of needles ( depending on the operator).
It is great for everybody and for clients who have thick hair and want to fill in gaps in their eyebrows.
While Ombre eyebrows last longer than feathered eyebrows, due to the colour dilution, it does not last as long as the original full strength block colour method.
- Combination Eyebrow Tattoo Using Hair Strokes and Ombre Brows
The two methods can be combined in two different ways:
- Hair strokes can be used next to the nose and the rest tattooed the Ombre method.
- Hair stokes can cover the whole eyebrow and a lighter colour can be added in between the strokes.
Block Eyebrow Tattoo
The block eyebrow tattoo method is the original technique and still very popular, particularly in the Middle East.
While less popular, the block method does have its benefits, it is the longest lasting of all the eyebrow tattoo techniques.
As a result, some people start with feathered eyebrow tattoo, and then transition to the block eyebrow tattoo for a longer lasting effect.
Perfect Eyebrow Tattoo
The perfect eyebrow tattoo combines knowledge of colours, skin tones, facial features, eyebrow design and skill in using the right tools.
A review about the use of medication and vitamins is also necessary in order to get a good result.
